چکیده

It is common for random number generators to be tested with empirical tests. Since most of these tests have been designed solely for software implementation, implementing them in hardware may not be practical. This paper will look at the hardware implemention of seven popular tests. The area, time delay, and power consumption characteristics of each test will be compared. These three criteria will be used to show the tests suitability for hardware implementation in smart cards.

Evaluation of ASIC Implementation of Physical Random Number Generators Using RS Latches

Embedded devices such as smart cards and smart phones are used for secure systems, for example automated banking machines and electronic money. The security of an embedded device depends strongly on secret information; cryptographic keys, nonces for authentication or seeds for a pseudo random number generator, which is generated by a Physical True Random Number Generator (PTRNG). If a PTRNG gen...

Feasibility of Smart Cards in Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) Technology

Applications involving smart cards have rapidly emerged since a few years. Up to now, chips are realized in conventional bulk technology. But as the need for performance rises, alternative technologies must be investigated. In this paper we study the feasibility of realizing the blocks for a smart card chip in Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology. For most of the circuit blocks, SOI realizatio...

A Pollard-like pseudorandom number generator over EC

In this short paper we propose a pseudorandom number generator over EC based on Pollardlike method. In contrast to the well known Elliptic Curve Random Number Generator (see e.g. ANSI and NIST draft standards) the generator is based on a random walk over the group of EC-points like in the original Pollard’s rho algorithm and only resembles a little bit the linear congruential generator over ell...

A Framework of Authentic Post-Issuance Program Modification for Multi-Application Smart Cards

Authentic program modification is very important for a multi-application smart card system since applications in the system are realized after the issuance of the smart card. In this paper, we propose a framework for such authentic program modification. In our framework, before issuing a smart card to an individual, the card issuer stores a unique long bit string called PID on the card. From th...
